Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Personality traits and Temperament

They are very popular as companion dogs due to their loving, playful and sweet nature. They have a very dependent personality and love to be with people. They tend to follow their owners around everywhere they go. With one of these dogs in the house consider yourself having an extra shadow. Due to this nature they always need people around and do not thrive well when left alone. They make good pets for stay at home parents and retired people.

They have good affinity towards children and love kids who can play ball with them. Smaller children have to be supervised around the dogs as these dogs can get hurt very easily. They are also very friendly to other dogs.

They are well suited for apartment lifestyle and should are not fit for outdoor lifestyle. They only need moderate exercise. While taking them on walks keep them on a leash as they have a tendency to chase birds, rabbits and other small animals.

They will bark when strangers approach the premises, but are more likely to make friends with them. Therefore they are not watchdog material. They are very sensitive dogs and any scolding from the owners can cause them to sulk and whine in a corner.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

The coat is of medium length, curly and real silky. Ears, legs and tail can have longer hairs. They are easy to groom and maintain. They should be brushed three to four times a week and should be bathed weekly as they can get very dirty. The hairs on the ears and legs should be checked for matting. Hairs around the foot pads should be trimmed regularly.

Ears should be checked regularly for infections. Other basic grooming practices like trimming nails and brushing of teeth should also be regularly done
