Cardigan Welsh Corgi Personality traits and Temperament

This is a loving, good-natured, and active dog. They make a great family companion and have an adaptable personality and responsible nature. But he needs to be socialised with other dogs in the house as this breed can be very territorial. With proper socialisation they can become very friendly with other dogs will even enjoy their company.

He is very sturdily built but can also be very agile. They have a lot off energy and needs to be exercised a lot. A house with a small yard is perfect for him. They should also be taken for walks daily. They excel at dog sports, especially agility, herding, obedience, rally, and tracking.

These dogs love children and are very good around the young ones. Due to their high energy and agility kids will also love these dogs. Because they have herding instincts they can nip at the feet of the young ones, but this is not any due to any aggression. Therefore adult supervision will be needed and the children must be taught how to properly behave around the dogs.

They have keen sense of smell and hearing and are good watch dogs. They can be very vocal and loud barkers. They will announce strangers with a torrent of barking. They are not very sociable to visiting friends or relatives and can take time to warm up to them.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

They have a thick double coat which is thicker around the thighs and back forming a trouser like appearance. They constantly shed and there are heavy shedding periods twice a year. Because of the heavy shedding potential they need to be brushed regularly. A pin brush can be used for this purpose. Grooming also helps distribute all the natural oils in the coat.
They are very clean dogs and also do not have a doggy odour. Therefore bathing will be rarely needed. Other basic routine grooming practises like trimming nails, brushing of teeth and proper ear and eye care must be regularly done.
